Doha: The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) underscored Monday the importance of digital transformation to enhance the quality of higher education in Arab countries in light of the rapid technological developments witnessed by the world. Director of the Information and Communication Technology Department at ALECSO, Mohamed Jemni explained in his opening speech at a conference held by ALECSO entitled “Digital Project Management within the Framework of Digital Transformation in the Higher Education Sector” that digital transformation has become an imperative necessity to keep pace with the requirements of the modern era and address the most important challenges facing our Arab world, such as rapid population growth and increased demand for education.
According to Qatar News Agency, Jemni pointed out ALECSO’s interest in following advanced global methodologies in the Arab world and its institutions by contributing to the development of interactive educational platforms and providing advanced digital resources, which makes the educational process more attractive and effective for students and academics through the implementation of digital projects such as distance education and virtual classrooms, where Arab universities can expand their reach to students in remote areas and reduce the educational gap between urban and rural areas.
He added that digital project management enables the optimization of financial and human resources through accurate planning and appropriate distribution of tasks, which ensures achieving goals with the least costs and resources, noting that the methodologies followed contribute to identifying potential risks such as data breaches or system failures and developing proactive plans to mitigate their effects.
For her part, Director General of the Al Khwarizmi Center, Sawsan Krishan confirmed that implementing the digital transformation strategy in the higher education sector in Arab countries is based on digital project management with a focus on best practices and methodologies appropriate for this type of complex university projects. She noted that this conference represents an important opportunity for participants to understand the processes and tools used to ensure the success of digitization projects while enhancing understanding of the challenges specific to the higher education and scientific research sector, as participants will be able to adopt a systematic path to effectively implement digital and innovative solutions and learn about the basic principles of digital project management.
The conference, organized by ALECSO in collaboration with the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and the Al Khwarizmi Center, is attended by a number of researchers, university professors, professors and administrators who have professional experience in managing university digital projects.
