AMYR DU SOLEIL wins Ras Umm Hasah Cup at Al Uqda

The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the fifth race meeting in the 2022-23 season at the Uqda Racecourse turf track on Saturday, 24 December. The seven-race card day was wrapped up with the feature event, Ras Umm Hasah Cup, a Conditions for four-year-old and older Purebred Arabians over 1,400 metres, which saw a superb performance as the H.E. Sheikha Iman Bint Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani-owned and Rudy Nerbonne-trained Amyr Du Soleil (Amer x Balladore) showed a stunning burst of acceleration, going two lengths clear of the field and cruising home under jockey Lukas Delozier. The Al Rufaa Racing-owned and Gassim Ghazali-trained Ateej (US) (AF AlBahar) finished second under jockey Marco Casamento and was one and a quarter lengths ahead of the third placed, the Sabhea Awad Ibrahim-owned and Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained Ezzat Nafs (QA) (AF AlBahar), who was ridden by jockey Alberto Sanna.

Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners after the final race of the day.

Sen Ding

In a thrilling start to the Ras Umm Hasah Cup day, the Mubarak Ali Al Nuaimi-owned and Hamad Al Jehani-trained Sen Ding (IRE) (Mehmas x Marol) got up in the shadow of the post to land the spoils. Under Hugo Besnier, the 3YO gelding took the 1200m Maiden for 3-6YO Thoroughbreds by a nose just touching off Imperial Fora (IRE) (Holy Roman Emperor).

Sanad

Sanad (QA) (Mared Al Sahra x Reesha ASF) got off the mark for owner Nasser Owaida Salem Al Hajri and trainer Hadi Al Ramzani in race two, a Handicap (0-75) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians. Jockey Abdulla Rashid Al-Hajri rode the 5YO to a one-and-a half-length win in the 1300m contest.

Bucanero

Bucanero (FR) (AF AlBahar x Josbella), the Nasser Saif Al Kubaisi-owned and Mohammed Ghazali-trained 3YO colt, won his third career start, having finished runner-up in the first two. Ridden by Ivan Rossi in the third race in the card, he stormed clear impressively to win by three and a quarter lengths in the 1400m Maiden for 3YO+ Purebred Arabians.

Hallab

Sheikh Faisal Bin Hamad Bin Jassim Al Thani’s homebred Hallab (QA) (Trade Storm x Neutron Bomb) was quickly back to winning ways as the Mohamed Khaled Elahmed-trained 3YO gelding held off his pursuers in race four to win the 1400m Handicap (0-70) for 3YO+ Local Thoroughbreds with three-quarters of a length to spare under jockey Alberto Sanna.

Deliver The Dream

Only a neck decided the winner of fifth race, a 1400m Handicap (0-80) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds and it was the Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik-owned Deliver The Dream (USA) (Kantharos x Bellarada) who came out on top for trainer Debbie Mountain and jockey Jefferson Smith ahead of Shobrom (IRE) (Acclamation)

Glengarra

There was a very thrilling six-way finish in the day’s penultimate race, a 1200m Handicap (75-95) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds with only a length covering the first six home, but it was the Al Thumama Racin-owned and Gassim Ghazali-trained Glengarra (IRE) (Profitable x Puzzled), ridden by Marco Casamento, who emerged on top by a short head Angelic Queen (IRE) (Anjaal).
