An ambush takes down two antiquities dealers in Baghdad

The Intelligence Agency of the Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday the arrest of two defendants and the seizure of an artifact dating back to an ancient historical era in their possession in Baghdad Governorate.

Its statement said, “Based on accurate intelligence information, the Intelligence Agency’s detachments in Baghdad/Al-Rusafa were able, through a sophisticated ambush, to arrest two people and seize in their possession an (artifact) dating back to a long historical era in Baghdad Governorate.”

He pointed out, "The defendants' statements were recorded and they explicitly admitted to trading in this archaeological book that was seized in their possession. They were arrested in accordance with the provisions of Article (44) of the Antiquities and Heritage Law to receive their just punishment."
