The Arab League emphasized that the time has come for the international community to take tangible actions to assure the Palestinians that the dream of an independent state is still achievable and that the two-state solution is more than mere rhetoric. This was conveyed in a speech by Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit during a meeting in Madrid between the Arab-Islamic ministerial committee, which was formed by the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic summit to monitor developments in Gaza, and the foreign ministers of European nations that have recognized the State of Palestine. The discussions focused on achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and exploring practical measures to implement the two-state solution. In a statement, the Arab League highlighted that the meeting, convened at the invitation of Spain, resulted in an agreement between the European ministers and the Arab-Islamic delegation on the need to broaden international recognition of the Palestinian state as a vital step toward estab lishing its presence on the ground. The statement also pointed out that the ministers condemned the international community's failure to address the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, which has persisted for nearly a year, emboldening Israel to extend its conflict into the West Bank. In a related development, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez held an expanded meeting with the Arab-Islamic delegation before the ministerial talks. They discussed ways to broaden recognition of the Palestinian state, the necessary steps to revive the two-state solution, and ongoing efforts to halt Israeli aggression in Gaza and curb the dangerous escalation in the West Bank.
