Cairo - Ma'an - The heads of Arab councils and parliaments adopted an emergency item on the agenda of the 149th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled to be held on October 13, at the conclusion of the 35th emergency conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union today. The item calls for an immediate cessation of Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem, based on the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice and the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly calling for an end to the Israeli occupation in preparation for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. The draft resolution, submitted by Palestine through the Deputy Speaker of the National Council, Musa Hadid, also calls on the parliaments of countries that have not recognized Palestine to expedite their recognition of it, in line with international legitimacy. The conference was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo, chaired by the President of the Arab Parliamentary Union and President of the Algerian National People's Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali. The conference was held to support the Palestinian people and to call on the international community to intervene urgently to stop Israeli crimes against the Palestinians, including attacks on civilians in Gaza and repeated attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Participants renewed their call for international organizations to assume their responsibilities and stop the escalating Israeli violence, warning that the continuation of Israeli practices could lead to a dangerous escalation that threatens the stability of the entire region.
