Doha: The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has announced the commencement of the Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL) project, marking a significant milestone as the first of its kind in Qatar. The laboratory, located in Al Sailiya, covers an area of 3,500 square meters and is set to play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of radiation measurements in line with the standards set by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to Qatar News Agency, this project underscores Qatar’s commitment to enhancing radiation safety and integrating the latest technological advancements, thereby strengthening its status as a leader both regionally and internationally in this vital field.
SSDL project engineer from the Building Projects Department, Eng. Hashem Ali, highlighted the laboratory’s role in providing advanced calibration services for radiation measurement devices used across the medical, industrial, and environmental sectors. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to improving the quality and safety of radiation measurements in the country.
Eng. Hashem Ali also noted that the facility’s exterior design draws inspiration from Qatari culture and the local environment, seamlessly blending modernity with heritage to reflect the nation’s identity.
