Athens, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, Oil and Environment Minister, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, has participated in the ninth UN Our Ocean Conference, hosted by Athens, Greece. Representatives of countries, regional and international organisations, as well as those of the private sector and the non-governmental organisations attended the conference, themed 'Our Ocean… an Ocean of Potential'. Dr. Bin Daina underlined the kingdom's keenness to enhance international cooperation in protecting and preserving the marine environment and oceans, by benefitting from them in a sustainable manner and adopting international initiatives related to them. The ninth UN Our Ocean Conference focuses on six areas of action, namely marine protected areas, sustainable blue economy, climate-ocean nexus, maritime security, sustainable fisheries and marine pollution. The conference also featured several plenary sessions that shed on maritime security, ways to deal with illicit trade in goods and people, and protect ion of fish stocks, in addition to marine pollution, including plastic pollution and oil spills.
