Vienna, Brigadier Samir Ahmed Al Zayani, First Deputy Chairman of the National Committee on the Prohibition of Weapons of Mass Destruction, led Bahrain's delegation at the 68th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. Bahrain's participation underscores its commitment to strengthening ties with the IAEA and supporting its efforts in promoting the peaceful use of nuclear technology. The Kingdom values the IAEA's role in assisting member states with technical expertise and fostering international cooperation on nuclear safety and security. On delivering the Kingdom's statement, Brigadier Al Zayani affirmed Bahrain's commitment to working with the IAEA on peaceful nuclear energy applications and expanding international cooperation in this domain. Brigadier Al Zayani affirmed Bahrain's firm support for a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, aligning with the 1995 Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). He stressed the impo rtance of eliminating nuclear weapons and ensuring all regional nuclear facilities are under IAEA oversight. He also highlighted Bahrain's support for the peaceful use of nuclear energy and its interest in further cooperation on nuclear knowledge and technology. Brigadier Al Zayani praised the ongoing collaboration between Bahrain and the IAEA, particularly through the Technical Cooperation Programme, which supports sustainable development goals and strengthens capabilities in health, environmental protection, and emergency preparedness for nuclear and radiological incidents.
