Bahrain junior team triumphed in the Fiba Asia Under-16 Gulf Basketball Association Qualifier 2021 after defeating Kuwait 59-53 in the final at Zain Arena in Um Al Hassam last night.
Kuwait led 22-21 at halftime, but the hosts went on a scoring spree in the final session to pull off a remarkable victory, GDN reported.
As finalists of the qualifier, Both Bahrain and Kuwait have earned berths in the Fiba Under-16 Asian Championship.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia defeated Qatar 81-69 in the match for the third position.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa presented the trophy to the champions.
Shaikh Khalid congratulated the winners and wished them success in the Asian championship. He also praised Bahrain Basketball Association chairman and board members for their efforts in the preparing the team for the event.
Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Ayman Almoayyad and Ministry of Cabinet Affairs Under-Secretary and BOC vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa also congratulated the Bahrain junior team for their outstanding performance at the qualifier.
