Basra: More than 140,000 visitors enter through Shalamcheh and Safwan ports to perform Arbaeen pilgrimage


The head of the Security Committee in Basra Council, Aqeel Al-Furaiji, announced that “the number of visitors from Shalamcheh and Safwan crossings exceeded 140 thousand visitors heading towards the holy city of Karbala to perform the Arbaeen pilgrimage.”

He said that “this year witnessed a strong desire and joint organization between the Iranian and Iraqi sides at the highest levels in the process of delegating visitors, to make the Arbaeen visit a success,” indicating that “the basis for the success of this qualitative work is due to the desire of both parties “Iran and the local government in Basra” in addition to the Ministry of Interior, and the cooperation of everyone in these security and service services in order to reach the highest level of service for Arbaeen visitors, especially through Shalamcheh crossing, which is the largest border crossing in Basra and has witnessed the reception of more than 100 thousand visitors so far, while the number of visitors through Safwan border crossing reached more
than 40 thousand visitors.” He added that “this desire and joint cooperation strengthened these governmental efforts and turned into a successful and qualitative actual work by facilitating the receiving of visitors, stamping passports, and providing service by the Husseini processions.”
