Ramallah Ma'an - A delegation from Birzeit Municipality visited the Jerusalem Water Authority and met with its Director General, Abdul Khaliq Al-Karmi, and the Director of the Engineering Department at the Authority, Eng. Emil Abdo. The visiting delegation included the mayor, Nidal Shaheen, and the municipal council members, Ibrahim Saad, Dhiyab Al-Ash'al, and Firas Barbar, and from the engineering department, Eng. Mai Atmawi. The Municipality Board of Directors reiterated that the occupation cannot be exonerated for the recent aggravation of the water crisis, and that it is the main cause of all forms of suffering that our people are subjected to, especially water. He also called on the Palestinian Water Authority to work seriously to provide a water source for the region as a strategic solution and to quickly increase the quantities of water to fill the deficit and end the water crisis in the Birzeit region, or at least make it equal to the rest of the Authority's concession areas. Birzeit Municipality stressed during the meeting that what was said about the Director General of the Jerusalem Water Authority, Abdul Khaliq Al-Karmi, in the previous statement dated 7/18/2024 was an unsuccessful effort to absorb the anger of citizens due to the existing water supply problem, and the intention was not to offend him personally, for whom we have the utmost respect and appreciation. The municipality praised the great efforts made by the crews of the Jerusalem Water Authority, hoping at the same time to implement more water projects in the Birzeit area that would reduce the water crisis.
