Clashes renewed today, Sunday, in Ain Al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp, in the city of Sidon, southern Lebanon. Machine guns and rockets were used in the clashes.
And the Lebanon National News Agency reported that the security situation was tense in Ain al-Hilweh camp, and the clashes remained sporadic until midnight, as they stopped for four hours to resume at dawn today, despite all the efforts and contacts that were made at the highest levels and the meetings that were held until late at night.
Clashes are taking place at the camp's western axis point, Hittin Jabal al-Halib neighborhood, and the sound of shells is heard that crossed the borders of the camp to reach the neighboring places, causing more human and material losses and a greater displacement of the people from the camp towards safe places in the city of Sidon.
Yesterday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas discussed, during a phone call with Najib Mikati, head of the Lebanese caretaker government, developments in Ain al-Hilweh camp for Palestinian refugees in Sidon, southern Lebanon.
Abbas stressed, during the call, his keenness to achieve calm in the camp and to deal with matters in accordance with Lebanese law, and in coordination with the Lebanese state, indicating that he had issued strict instructions in order to achieve a complete and comprehensive calm in the camp from all parties.
