Havana, Cuban President, Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel, has renewed his country's stance in support of Syria and in rejection of any measures targeting its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. The Cuban President's remarks came during a meeting with Syrian Ambassador to Cuba, Dr. Ghassan Obaid, on the sidelines of the opening of the University Congress 2024 held in the Cuban capital, Havana. The Cuban President expressed his wishes for prosperity and stability to the brotherly Syrian people. For his part, Ambassador Obaid thanked the Cuban President, stressing Syria's firm stance in support of Cuba in its struggle against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on it for more than six decades, which is similar to the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria by Western countries and the US. Obaid stressed Syria's stance which underlines the necessity of lifting the siege and the unfair, inhumane and illegal coercive measures imposed on the Syrian and Cuban peoples, which are the main obstacle to the development and reconstruction process in both countries. Ambassador Obaid praised the efforts made by Cuba to make the important and useful University Congress 2024 which discusses various issues and topics related to the higher education sector a success, hoping that the conference will achieve its goals.
