“Dark plasma” explosion threatens Earth with a strong solar storm

General

Baghdad, NASA has monitored the explosion of "dark plasma" on the sun, which may affect the Earth and cause a 60% radio and communications network outage this week. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a warning that this plasma explosion may lead to "fluctuations in the power grid", with the possibility of disrupting radios, aviation communications and satellite operations, when the explosion's impact reaches Earth by Friday. A NASA video clip, captured by its Solar Dynamics Observatory, showed a dark cloud of cold solar flare exploding in the form of "black smoke" rushing over the surface of the sun. NOAA said there is a 60 percent chance of more mid-level solar flares in the next 24 hours, with a 15 percent chance of more extreme X-class flares, which could cause radio blackouts around the world. The latest "cold" solar flare, an M-class, erupted from a sunspot region called AR3757 late Sunday. Solar flares are divided into four categories based on their intensity: X-cl ass flares are the most intense, followed by M, C and weaker B-class flares. X- and M-class flares radiate energy powerful enough to impact Earth, where their electromagnetic pulses can cause communications and power outages. Experts have warned that Earth is set to face more severe solar storms over the next year. Source: National Iraqi News Agency
