Today, 1 January 2023, Doha Municipality celebrates the 60th anniversary of its establishment as the oldest municipality in the State of Qatar, by virtue of Law No. 11 of 1963 regulating the Municipality of Qatar, as amended by Law No. 15 of 1963, which stipulates changing the name of the Municipality of Qatar to the Municipality of Doha.
Since 1963, the Municipality has been adminstrated by the Government of the State of Qatar under the name of "Qatar Municipality". The first Qatari municipal director, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Darwish, was appointed in 1970, and he remained in office until 1983. Then, H.E. Eng. Ali bin Mohammed Al-Khater became the director of Doha Municipality until 1991. After that, the management position was occupied by the following directors, H.E. Mr. Ali bin Saad Al-Kuwari (1991-1994), Mr. Hamad Mubarak Al-Sulaiti (1994-1996), Mr. Fahd Abdullah Al-Suwailem (1996-2002), Eng. Khalid Abdulrahman Al Saad (2002-2006), Mr. Ibrahim Abdullah Al-Maliki (2006-2009), Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Sayed 2010-2016), Eng. Jamal Matar Al-Nuaimi (2016-2021), and Mr. Mansour Ajran Al-Buainin ( from 2021 till now).
