Ramallah - Ma'an - Action Aid International said that about 500,000 jobs were lost in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as a result of the continued aggression since the seventh of last October.
The organization explained in a statement issued today, Thursday, that the rate of poverty and unemployment in the Gaza Strip has reached unprecedented levels, as at least 201,000 jobs have been lost.
She pointed out that these jobs represent two-thirds of the total workforce in Gaza, according to the International Labor Organization, at a time when the prices of food and other basic materials have risen.
She pointed out that almost all economic activities have stopped in the Gaza Strip, especially after more than 85% were displaced from their homes.
As for the West Bank, the organization said that at least 306,000 jobs were lost, out of a third of the total workforce, and the permits of workers working within the 1948 territories were cancelled, while dozens of new military checkpoints were erected between towns and cities in the West Bank, preventing Citizens have access to their workplaces.
