An earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Sunday off the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's far east. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 73 km east of Milkovo. No injuries or damage have been reported so far. The Kamchatka Peninsula lies on a seismically active belt surrounding most of the Pacific Ocean known as the "Ring of Fire," and is home to more than two dozen active volcanoes.
