An earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Antofagasta region in northern Chile on Sunday. The epicenter of the earthquake occurred 148 km northeast of the city of San Pedro de Atacama, at a depth of 180.3 km, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far. In 2010, a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck central Chile, killing at least 500 people and triggering a tsunami.
