Earthquake of 5.2 Magnitude Strikes Off Coast of Fukushima in Japan

Fukushima: An earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Fukushima in northeastern Japan today.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage resulting from the quake so far.

Japan is situated at the intersection of four tectonic plates, which makes it susceptible to seismic activity. The country is also home to 100 active volcanoes.

In 2011, an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0 hit Japan, triggering a tsunami that killed more than 15,000 people and led to a disaster at the Fukushima nuclear plant.
