Egypt announces its intention to intervene in support of South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel before the International Court of Justice

Cairo - Together - The Arab Republic of Egypt announced its intention to formally intervene to support the lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel before the International Court of Justice, to look into Israel's violations of its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry explained in a statement on Sunday that the announcement of intervention in the aforementioned lawsuit comes in light of the worsening severity and scope of Israeli attacks against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, and the continued perpetration of systematic practices against the Palestinian people, including direct targeting of civilians and the destruction of infrastructure in the Strip. And pushed the Palestinians to be displaced and displaced from their land, which led to the creation of an unprecedented humanitarian crisis that led to the creation of unlivable conditions in the Gaza Strip, in flagrant violation of the provisions of international law, international humanitarian law, and the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 regarding the protection of civilian persons in time of war.

Egypt called on Israel to comply with its obligations as the occupying power, and to implement the interim measures issued by the International Court of Justice, which require ensuring the entry of humanitarian and relief aid in a manner sufficient to meet the needs of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and for Israeli forces not to commit any violations against the Palestinian people, as they are a protected people. In accordance with the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

Egypt also renewed its demand to the Security Council and influential international parties for the necessity of immediate action to cease the fire in the Gaza Strip and military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah, and to provide the necessary protection for Palestinian civilians.
