Egypt welcomes UNGA vote for Palestine’s full UN membership

Egypt welcomed the UN General Assembly (UNGA) vote adopting the Arab-proposed resolution to grant Palestine full membership in the United Nations. With 143 countries voting in favor, 9 against, and 25 abstentions, Egypt hailed the historic resolution as a recognition of the rights of people enduring over seven decades of occupation. Egypt called on countries yet to admit Palestine to follow suit, emphasising support for Palestinian rights. It urged the UN Security Council and international influential actors to address the dangerous situation in the Gaza Strip Egypt underlined the importance of intensifying international efforts to implement the two state-solution, which calls for establishing an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 4 June, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
