The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has operated a relief airlift of emergency Ramadan and humanitarian aid to Sudan to meet the needs of thousands of families in the states of Khartoum, South Kordofan, Kassala, Blue Nile, River Nile, Al Jazirah and Northern.

The aid is provided upon the directives of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), Honorary Chairperson of the ERC, the Mother of the Nation, and under supervision from H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, Chairman of the ERC.

Sheikha Fatima directed the UAE's top humanitarian arm to deploy rapid emergency aid to the Sudanese people, including basic supplies and Ramadan essentials, with families most affected by the current health situation being prioritised.

In response, the ERC operated a relief airlift of five planes that successively travelled to Khartoum, carrying hundreds of tonnes of essential food supplies.

Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, lauded the efforts of Sheikha Fatima, commending her role in championing humanitarian work regionally and internationally. He explained that the ERC is working in coordination with the UAE embassy in Khartoum, and local partners in Sudan to deliver the aid to their beneficiaries in various Sudanese states.

Hamad Mohamed Hamad Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Sudan, said that the initiatives of Sheikha Fatima have enabled vulnerable people in Sudan to overcome their dire conditions and provided for their basic needs.

He added that Sheikha Fatima's noble initiative is being implemented for the third consecutive year, as part of a series of Emirati initiatives in Sudan.
