Erdogan: The Turkish-Iraqi Development Road Is An Opportunity To Build A New World

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: The Turkish-Iraqi development road project provides the opportunity to build a new world.

In his speech at the thirteenth annual Concordia Summit in New York City, which he is visiting to participate in the meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Turkish President affirmed that his country sensed a great determination among the Gulf states to implement the Turkish-Iraqi development road project and that Turkey is determined to implement the project in cooperation with other countries.

The Concordia Summit is one of the largest global forums that annually brings together thought leaders and decision makers from various countries, commercial institutions and non-profit organizations.

Erdogan said: “Through the Turkish-Iraqi development road, we will have the opportunity to build a new world through this step that we intend to take, and that the development road project is a land path from the Gulf states to Iraq and from there to Europe through Turkish territory.”

He added: The route includes both land and railway parts, and has an infrastructure and superstructure, and “we have seen great determination from the Gulf countries regarding this project, whether the Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia or Iraq, all of them are strongly determined for this vital project.”

The Turkish President indicated that he felt the same determination towards the project from the United States, Germany and Japan.

It is noteworthy that the "Development Road" project, which was announced by Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani late last May, includes the land and railway road extending from Iraq to Turkey and its ports.

On the other hand, Erdogan stressed the necessity of enacting a new constitution for the country “if there is a positive response from the political parties in Parliament, indicating that this is a common issue and everyone must solve it together.”

Erdogan indicated that he will continue to call on all parties in the Turkish Parliament to support the enactment of a new constitution for the country.

It is noteworthy that the constitution in force in Turkey is the constitution that was enacted in 1982 after the military coup in 1980 led by General Kanan Oren.
