Under the auspices and presence of HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz bin Turki Al-Subaie, Minister of Municipality, and HE Mr. Yerlan Baidaulet, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security(IOFS)
MM organized ?Food Safety Forum and IOFS Strategic Commodities? from 14th to 16th of February 2022 in cooperation with the Islamic Organization for Food Security.
The Forum was attended by a number of ambassadors, officials of the Islamic Organization, representatives of the national authorities, and a number of Ministry officials. During its convening, the Forum discussed developing the production of strategic commodities, such as wheat, rice, and others, as well as discussing issues related to food safety and promoting healthy consumption patterns.
In this regard, HE Dr. Al-Subaie, Minister of Municipality and Environment, emphasized that the convening of this Forum is a true reflection of the belief in the importance of joint action and productive cooperation among the OIC members, as well as being a critical opportunity for consultation and exchanging technical knowledge and experience to reach the convenient recommendations and measures for ensuring the availability of strategic commodities in addition to developing food quality and safety standards.
Additionally, Dr. Al-Subaie clarified that Qatar is greatly concerned with food security and securing the food needs of the population of the State of Qatar, as part of Qatar's National Vision 2030, whereas Qatar National Food Security Strategy 2018-2023 concentrated on providing the basic and strategic food commodities to the consumers in the State at affordable prices and high quality consistent with Islamic Sharia requirements and safety standards. Consequently, this enabled Qatar to rank first in the Arab world and 24th globally in the Global Food Security Index(GFSI). The minister also referred that the State had reinforced its storage capabilities by executing a project of building food security facilities and warehouses at Hamad Port on an area stretching over half a million square meters. The project includes storage silos as well as facilities for the processing, manufacturing, and refining of rice, raw sugar, and edible oils.
