The Civil Defense Directorate announced today, Saturday, that a fire was extinguished in a commercial building for construction materials in the center of Holy Karbala.
It said in a statement that its teams extinguished a large fire that broke out inside a four-story commercial building used to store and trade construction materials in the employees’ neighborhood, noting that “the last floor of it was constructed of highly flammable sandwich panels and covered with Ecobond panels, which violates safety instructions.”
It pointed out that "the civil defense teams mobilized and sent ten specialized firefighting teams and other support tanks and ladder vehicles to fight the fire from top to bottom and control the spread of the fire to the buildings adjacent to the accident site, in conjunction with carrying out direct raids by firefighters and entering into the middle of the burning building's warehouses and taking control of it completely and prevent its spread without recording any human casualties."
It continued, "As a result, the Civil Defense requested that an investigation be opened at the police station responsible for the geographical area and that a forensic expert be summoned to determine the causes of the outbreak of the fire and hold accountable those who were negligent in providing safety procedures and Civil Defense requirements."
