French President Emmanuel Macron discussed with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz how to make Europe more competitive in international markets, in light of the growth of other economies, primarily the Chinese and American economies. The Elysee Palace said in a statement that the two sides discussed with business representatives from their countries, in the city of Evian in eastern France, possible solutions to enhance the economic capabilities of the European continent with the rise of new economic poles. The statement noted that a bilateral meeting between Macron and Scholz will be held to propose possible solutions to make Europe more independent from the Chinese and American economies, in addition to following up on the French-German Cabinet which focused on strengthening Europe and creating a more independent economy when dealing with China and the United States. It's worth noting that the annual Evian meetings, which began in 1992, bring together CEOs of German and French companies with the aim of strength ening economic relations between the two countries.
