QTerminals, the operator of Hamad International Port, announced the start of full-scale operations of the first and second phases of the development of Hamad Port Container Terminal 2 (CT2).
The company, which was established in partnership between Mwani Qatar and Milaha, stated that the second container terminal is equipped with the latest environmentally friendly technological equipment to keep pace with the needs and requirements of global operators of shipping lines, explaining that during the development stages of the terminal, local manufacturing was supported, and the latest technologies based on environmental sustainability and clean energy were adopted. As more than 70 percent of the materials and equipment that were used in the infrastructure works, equipment and construction of the plant, were manufactured in the State of Qatar.
The company also pointed out that Container Terminal 2 was equipped, in the first and second phases, with seven cranes from ships to the berth equipped with modern technology, including semi-automatic operations and remote control systems, in addition to its speed and high efficiency in handling, and its ability to deal with the latest types of ships in a way that enables the crane one of them handles four 20-foot containers or two 40-foot containers together at the same time, in addition to 26 gantry cranes with rubber tires used for handling containers on the ground.
