Doha: The Government Communications Office (GCO) and the German Mittelstand GCC Office have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand Germany’s participation at Web Summit Qatar, one of the world’s leading global tech events, for the next three editions through the German Startup Pavilion. Signed on the second day of Web Summit Qatar 2025, the MoU aims to strengthen economic and technological collaboration between the State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Germany.
According to Qatar News Agency, the agreement was signed by HE Director of the Government Communications Office Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani, and Vice Chairman and Board member for the German Mittelstand GCC Office Gordon Pelz. Key officials present included HE Deputy Director General at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) Dr. Dorothea Schutz, Assistant Undersecretary for Industrial Affairs and Business Development at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Saleh bin Majid Al Khulaifi, Acting Ambassador of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Qatar Thomas Triller, and Regional Director of the German Mittelstand GCC Office Nizar Maarouf, alongside company representatives and local and international media.
HE Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani remarked at the signing ceremony that the MoU signifies Qatar’s dedication to enhancing its business landscape and attracting startups, particularly from Germany. He emphasized the robust and enduring relations between Qatar and Germany, especially in the economic and technological sectors.
Dr. Dorothea Schutz expressed her pleasure in participating in Web Summit Qatar 2025, noting the impressive German delegation of over 100 participants, marking it as the largest delegation at the summit. She highlighted the momentum the event gains with each edition, underscoring the advantages of Qatar’s business infrastructure and the promising opportunities for startups and investors.
Saleh bin Majid Al Khulaifi commented post-event that Qatar’s business environment and investment opportunities are enticing entrepreneurs globally to initiate new ventures in Qatar, spanning various sectors. He stated that existing laws and legislation would support innovation and growth, reinforcing Qatar’s status as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Thomas Triller noted that the second edition of Web Summit in Doha is establishing itself as a significant international platform for startups, seasoned entrepreneurs, and investors to explore collaboration opportunities.
Nizar Maarouf expressed pride in the launch of the German Start-up Pavilion, a first in the region, following the success of Web Summit 2024. He mentioned the strong interest and registrations from over 100 German participants, validating their strategy to enhance German engagement in this vibrant market.
Web Summit Qatar 2025 is set to play a crucial role in fortifying cooperation between Qatar and Germany, featuring a dedicated German pavilion for CEOs, investors, and startups. The event will include workshops and panel discussions to showcase cutting-edge German innovations and foster collaboration between German startups and global industry leaders.
