Damascus, Health Ministry held on Sunday a national workshop on Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer after Syria was included in this initiative. The workshop, which was held in cooperation with BASMA Association for the Care of Children with Cancer and World Health Organization(WHO), aims to raise awareness at national and international levels in dealing with this disease, in addition to evaluating the recent achievements regarding it and involving people with cancer in various related activities. Health Minister, Dr. Hassan al-Ghabbash, stressed that by Syria's accession to the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer, the ministry is working to benefit from technical assistance, capacity building to improve diagnosis, treatment and care for children with the disease. World Health Organization representative in Syria, Dr. Iman Al-Shanqiti, said that child cancer care in Syria faces many challenges, noting that the organization is working to support Syria by securing some medicines, specialized quality eq uipment and supporting infrastructure.
