Health Ministry: More than 226 kilograms of drugs and psychotropic substances were destroyed in the forensic medicine department in Baghdad

The Ministry of Health announced the destruction of 226 kilograms of drugs and psychotropic substances in the forensic medicine department in Baghdad. The Ministry stated that under the supervision of the Minister of Health, Dr. Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, Chairman of the Supreme National Authority for Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, and the follow-up of the Mental Health Advisor/Department of Follow-up of the work of the Supreme National Authority for Drugs and in the presence of all members of the committee specialized in destroying drugs, new quantities were destroyed today, Thursday, August 1, 2024. The Chairman of the Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Destruction Committee of the Supreme Judicial Council stated that (226) kg and 744 grams of various narcotic substances and (340) tablets of amphetamine were destroyed, which were seized according to legal records and stored in the fortified rooms in the forensic medicine department. He added that the narcotic substances are examined, weighed and tested b efore being destroyed to ensure that they comply with the legal seizure reports. They are then transferred to incinerators with very high temperatures exceeding 1300 degrees Celsius, after which they are technically examined to ensure that they are ineffective. He pointed out the government's intention to eliminate the scourge of drugs, which is considered one of the priorities of the government program, indicating the determination of the specialized committee to destroy all quantities seized in Baghdad and the governorates.
