HH the Amir Inaugurates 54th Ordinary Session of the Shura Council

Doha: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani inaugurated the first ordinary session of the second legislative term, marking the 54th annual session of the Shura Council at the Tamim bin Hamad Hall. The opening event was attended by key dignitaries, including HH the Personal Representative of HH the Amir Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, as well as prominent members of the royal family and government officials.

According to Qatar News Agency, HH the Amir delivered a speech emphasizing the effective legislative role of the Shura Council and Qatar’s positive economic performance amidst global economic volatility. He highlighted the country’s ability to maintain macroeconomic stability and investor confidence due to rational and balanced policies. The Third National Development Strategy aims to achieve significant national outcomes over the next five years, with a focus on sectors contributing to sustainable development.

The Amir noted the importance of continued efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development as part of the Qatar National Vision 2030. He acknowledged the country’s advancements in energy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social welfare, alongside its growing appeal as a destination for investment in competitive sectors.

The financial sector remains robust, supported by increased international reserves and foreign currency liquidity at the Qatar Central Bank, alongside a high economic credit rating. The Amir emphasized the importance of a disciplined financial policy, focusing on realistic revenue management and prioritizing core development projects.

Further, the energy sector’s growth has been resilient, overcoming regional conflicts while ensuring global energy supply. The inauguration of solar photovoltaic plants in Ras Laffan and Mesaieed reflects Qatar’s commitment to environmental sustainability and clean energy transition.

The Amir underscored the need for investment in education and human capital development, vital for Qatar’s future economic and human development. He emphasized the role of private sector support, highlighting Qatar Development Bank’s role in offering financing and insurance programs to enhance sector competitiveness.

In terms of justice, the Supreme Judicial Council continues efforts to improve case resolution rates, reflecting enhanced efficiency in the judicial system. Internationally, Qatar remains a key partner in mediation and humanitarian efforts, enhancing its global standing despite challenges to its sovereignty.

The Amir condemned past violations of Qatar’s sovereignty by Iran and Israel, particularly the aggression targeting members of a negotiating delegation. He reiterated Qatar’s condemnation of Israeli actions in Palestine and called for international support to protect Palestinian rights and achieve a just peace.
