Higher Coordination Council between Jordan and Syria Meets in Amman

Amman: The Higher Coordination Council between Jordan and Syria convened in Amman on Sunday. The session was chaired by Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Syrian counterpart, Asaad Shaibani, with the participation of 30 ministers from both countries. According to Qatar News Agency, the Council discussed the latest developments on the regional and international arenas and emphasized the importance of strengthening security and stability in the Middle East. They expressed support for efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and addressing shared challenges. The Council also welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, stressing the need for negotiations to lead to a comprehensive and lasting de-escalation based on respect for international law, state sovereignty, and freedom of navigation. They emphasized addressing all causes of tension over past decades to enhance regional security and stability. Moreover, the Higher Coordination Council condemned the Israeli aggress ion against Lebanon, emphasizing the need to end it, and affirmed its support for the Lebanese government's efforts to extend its sovereignty over all its territory, activate its institutions, and ensure state monopoly on violence. The Council warned against the serious Israeli escalation and illegal unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank, stressing the need to halt all actions that undermine the two-state solution and push toward further tension and conflict. They also cautioned against exploiting current circumstances as a pretext to impose a new reality on the occupied Palestinian territories.
