Manama, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa met with His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine at the Sakhir Palace today, on the sidelines of his participation in the 33rd Arab Summit. They reviewed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries and means to strengthen them. The two sides expressed their hope for the success of the Arab Summit in producing that will contribute to further bolstering Arab solidarity and unity. The Palestinian President expressed his thanks to HM the King for the kind invitation and generous hospitality. The two leaders discussed the development of events in the Arab region and the latest developments in the Middle East region, particularly the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, and the importance of intensifying efforts to achieve a ceasefire, providing full protection for civilians, and ensuring unimpeded provision of essential humanitarian aid through all available channels. HM the King reiterated Bahrain's fi rm position on supporting the Palestinian cause and all efforts to achieve a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the region, and ensuring the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state in accordance with the two-state solution and legitimate international resolutions. For his part, President Abbas expressed his appreciation for the humanitarian stances of HM the King in support of the Palestinian people, and the kingdom's role in supporting the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people.
