Wrapping up the Mesaieed Cup day’s seven-race card, Injaaz Stud’s MAHTHOUF (IRE) (Zoffany x Last Jewel) landed the Mesaieed Cup completing a double. Under Marco Casamento, the 4YO colt came out on top in the 1900m Handicap (0-85) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds by impressive five lengths recording a quick-fire double for trainer Gassim Ghazali. The Mohammed Abdulhadi Saad Al Hajri-owned and Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki-trained GENERAL PANIC (GB) (Outstrip) was ridden by Szczepan Mazur to take the runner-up place while the Mohammed Bin Fahad A H Al Attiya- owned and Georges Mikhalides -trained SEULOMONDE (GB)) (Dubawi) finished third as she was further four lengths behind under Alberto Sanna.
Abdulaziz Jassim Al Boenain, Al Uqda Complex Department Manager, presented the trophies to the winners.
NUANCE
In the penultimate race, Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s NUANCE (GB) (Frankel x Intimation) maintained his overall excellent record with a fifth win as he took the 1700m contest for 3YO Thoroughbreds by a half length for trainer Gassim Ghazali and jockey Tadgh O’Shea.
ABU THAYLAH
In the fifth race, Umm Qarn’s ABU THAYLAH (FR) (General x Al Basheq) bounced back to fine form quickly. The Alban de Mieulle-trained 4YO colt took the 1900m Handicap (0-90) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabian by one and a quarter lengths with Soufiane Saadi in the saddle.
SHAMS AL NAHAR
In the fourth race, Szczepan Mazur recorded a double in the evening as he rode Sabhea Awad Ibrahim’s homebred SHAMS AL NAHAR (QA) (AF AlBahar x Bint Al Ajwad) to clinch victory by a neck in the 1200m Handicap (0-80) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians for trainer Mohamed Khaled Elahmed. The Rashid Khamis R A Al Kuwari-owned and Mohamed Rashid Seif Al Kuwari-trained YATZAKHAN (FR) Mared Al Sahra) was second under Khalid Al Balushi.
MOUNT FAIRWEATHER
In the third race, Al Jasra Stud’s MOUNT FAIRWEATHER (GB) (National Defense x Spiaggia) got off the mark with a massive victory in the 1900m Thoroughbred Handicap (0-75) for 3YO+. The Tareq Essa Abdulla-trained and Saleh Salem Al Marri-ridden 3YO colt gave a stunning effort as he was over nine lengths clear of the field at the line.
AYAATH ALSRAIYA
In the second race, Al Sraiya Stud’s AYAATH ALSRAIYA (FR) (Style Vendome x New Saaboog) continued his fine run of form as he won the 1700m Thoroughbred Handicap (0-70) for 3YO+ for trainer Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki. This was the five-year-old’s second successive victory and he won by one and a quarter lengths in the hands of Szczepan Mazur.
IETIBAR
Ali Bin Saeed Aljafali Al Nuaimi’s homebred IETIBAR (QA) (Al Mamun Monlau x Ahwal) made a flying start to the evening with a five-length victory in the first race, a 1200m Novice Plate for 4YO+ Local Purebred Arabians. The Ahmed Kobeissi-trained 4YO filly doubled her tally under Pranil Arvind.
