The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the ninth race meeting in the 2021-22 season calendar of the Al Uqda Racecourse on Thursday, 20 January. The six-race card day was run on dirt and was wrapped up with the feature event, Ras Rokan Island Cup, a 2000m Handicap (0-95) for 4YO+ Thoroughbreds. The Cup went the way of Injaaz Stud’s RECEDING WAVES (GB) (Dick Turpin x Welanga), who won the day’s feature. Lukas Delozier recorded his second win on the day as he rode the Ali Al Kubaisi-trained 9YO horse to prevail by one and a half lengths. The Al Wasmiyah Farm-owned and Georges Mikhalides-trained CHOCO CHARLY (FR) (Myboycharlie) finished second under Alberto Sanna three quarters of a length in front of the Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki-owned and trained HESSDALEN (GB) (Sea The Stars), who was ridden by Ronan Thomas.
Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners after the final race of the day.
EZZAT NAFS
In the penultimate race, trainer Mohamed Khaled Elahmed, who had a superb day, saddled his third winner on the day as the Sabhea Awad Ibrahim-owned and bred EZZAT NAFS (QA) (AF AlBahar x Bint Al Ajwad) won the 1300m Handicap (0-85) for 4YO+ Local Purebred Arabians by three quarters of a length, completing a double for herself and giving jockey Szczepan Mazur a double on the day.
AL MEHRAB
In the fourth race in the card, the Abdulaziz Ali Al Kathiri-owned and trained AL MEHRAB (GB) (Zarak x Angel Oak) doubled his tally on his sixth outing as he took the 1300m Handicap (0-85) for 3YO Thoroughbreds very cosily by three and a half lengths under Marco Casamento, who recorded his second win on the day.
SEA THE LIGHT
Mohamed Abdulla Abdulmalik’s SEA THE LIGHT (QA) (Sea The Moon x Sterope) won the 1300m Handicap (0-80) for 4YO+ Local Thoroughbred comfortably by three lengths under Lukas Delozier, giving trainer Mohamed Khaled Elahmed a second win on the day.
BOLTON ABBEY
In the second race of the day, Mohammed Jaber Al Khayarin’s BOLTON ABBEY (IRE) (Holy Roman Emperror x In The Lurch) recorded his second win on his third run in Qatar. The Hamad Al Jehani-trained 3YO gelding was ridden by Marco Casamento to win the 1300m Notice Plate for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds by three quarters of a length.
IETIBAR
Ali Bin Saeed Aljafali Al Nuaimi’s IETIBAR (QA) (Al Mamun Monlau x Ahwal) got the meeting to a flying start as she was the runaway winner of the 1300m Maiden for 4-6YO Purebred Arabian fillies and mares by six and a half lengths under Szczepan Mazur for trainer Mohamed Khaled Elahmed.
