Iraq’s representative in New York meets UN Under-Secretary-General


The Chargé d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations in New York, Abbas Kazim Obaid, met with Kai Ryder, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Policy Affairs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement: “During the meeting, Iraq’s relations with the United Nations and specialized agencies, and the roles they play, were reviewed.”

The Chargé d’Affaires expressed Iraq’s gratitude for the cooperation and assistance provided by the United Nations to Iraqi institutions over the past decades, expressing his hope that this cooperation and technical assistance will continue according to the needs of national institutions, especially with regard to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Obaid referred to Iraq’s vision and the national development plan that are in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, looking forward to coordination between Iraq and the Office of the Executive Secretary-General to ensure the implementation of policies i
n a consistent and effective manner, and to strengthen partnerships to address challenges related to development and climate.

For his part, the Under-Secretary-General praised the progress made in Iraq in all fields and facing challenges, expressing his gratitude for the fruitful cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations, and the facilities provided by Iraq for the United Nations to carry out its tasks.

He stressed the importance of continuing this cooperation, as Iraq is considered a success story that should be emulated.
