Portoroz: King Abdullah II of Jordan emphasized the need for bolstering humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip to alleviate the severe impacts of the ongoing conflict. Addressing the Summit of Southern European Union countries (MED-9) in Portoroz, Slovenia, the King urged for coordinated efforts between Middle Eastern and Southern European nations, alongside the United States and other partners, to ensure adherence to the peace agreement aimed at ending the Gaza conflict.
According to Qatar News Agency, King Abdullah highlighted the critical role of the European Union in the peace process, particularly in supporting the Palestinian National Authority to benefit the Palestinian population. He stressed the necessity of reducing tensions in the West Bank and Jerusalem and strengthening Palestinian resilience, cautioning against the risks associated with unilateral actions.
In his speech, King Abdullah also called for further advancement of the Two-State Solution Conference outcomes, which was co-organized by Saudi Arabia and France in New York. He encouraged more international recognition of the State of Palestine.
The MED-9 Summit convenes leaders from Southern European countries, alongside EU officials and representatives. The participating nations include Slovenia, Cyprus, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, and Croatia, representing the nine European countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea.
