Beirut: Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun discussed with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah the latest developments in Lebanon and the region. The Lebanese President, during his meeting with the Saudi Foreign Minister in Beirut on Thursday, praised Saudi Arabia’s efforts in supporting Lebanon, expressing his hope to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields.
According to Qatar News Agency, Aoun highlighted that the priorities of the next stage after the formation of the Lebanese government are reconstruction, addressing the economic situation, and supporting the Lebanese army and security institutions. For his part, the Saudi Foreign Minister reaffirmed the Kingdom’s continued support for Lebanon and its people, noting the importance of the reforms that President Aoun intends to implement in order for Lebanon to overcome its crises, enhance its security, stability, and sovereignty, and preserve its institutions and gains.
He added that he discussed with the Lebanese President the importance of adhering to the ceasefire agreement, including the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territories, in addition to implementing Security Council Resolution 1701 and relevant international resolutions. On the other hand, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah met separately with the caretaker Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati, and the Prime Minister-designate of Lebanon Nawaf Salam.
