Minister of Communications, Hiyam Al-Yasiri, announced today, Monday, the agreement with Qatari Ooredoo to land submarine cables at the Iraqi Al-Faw station. The ministry stated in a statement that "the opinion body in the ministry took an important decision to approve the landing of a group of submarine cables in agreement with the Qatari Ooredoo Group, which includes (24) pairs with a large capacity of (500 terabytes) compared to other submarine cables and the international capacities that pass through the region." According to the statement, Al-Yasiri stressed "the importance of the large group as it is linked to more than (200) international submarine cables starting from the Sultanate of Oman, passing through a number of Gulf countries and the Al-Faw station in Iraq, reaching Europe." The statement added that the minister renewed her emphasis on" strengthening and activating Iraq's geographical position in the region as an important competitor to the Suez Canal and an attractive corridor for global co mpanies and investors to pass international communications capacities.
