Minister of Trade: Iraq has achieved self-sufficiency in wheat production and has good reserves sufficient for a year

Minister of Trade Athir Dawood Al-Ghariri confirmed that Iraq has achieved self-sufficiency in wheat production, as production reached six million and two hundred thousand tons, and it has good reserves sufficient for a year. In a speech on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Arab Bread Day in the Jordanian capital, Amman, according to a statement by the Ministry, he said, "In light of the challenges facing the grain sector and bread industry in our region, there is an urgent need to adopt modern technologies that ensure the sustainability and quality of production. He added, "Iraq has achieved self-sufficiency in wheat production, as production reached six million and two hundred thousand tons, which was achieved thanks to the efforts of the Iraqi government in cooperation with farmers despite the exceptional circumstances the region is going through." He explained that "the Ministry of Trade continues its vital role in securing the needs of the Iraqi citizen through the ration card file, which provid es the basic commodities that every citizen needs, in addition to having a good stockpile sufficient for a year, which enhances food stability and confidence in the government's ability to secure the needs of its people." Al-Ghariri pointed out that "despite these achievements, we have major challenges in developing storage and management methods for grains, especially wheat, and benefiting from the experiences of our brothers in the Arab countries to develop methods that ensure the protection of our strategic stockpile and enhance our ability to face future challenges."
