Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Engages in Workshop on Invasive Species’ Environmental Impacts in Kuwait

Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, through its Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department and the Wildlife Development Department, took part in a significant workshop organized by the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME). The workshop was titled “Non-Indigenous Invasive Species in the Arabian Sea Region of Oman”.

According to Qatar News Agency, the workshop was focused on raising awareness about the environmental impacts of invasive species on marine ecosystems. It provided a platform for discussions regarding the current status of these species and presented an overview of field action plans designed to combat their effects.

The workshop’s program featured training sessions for representatives from member countries. These sessions focused on classifying invasive species using advanced assessment tools like the “Species Invasiveness Screening Kit (SK-ISK)” application. This tool is instrumental in assessing how invasive species impact marine ecosystems, aiding in the development of effective management strategies.

The Ministry’s participation in this event highlights its ongoing commitment to regional collaboration in enhancing marine environmental protection. It also reflects its dedication to building national capacities to address the challenges of biodiversity and the environmental risks posed by invasive species.
