The Ministry of Environment announced today, Thursday, the launch of the project to adapt rural families in southern Iraq to water scarcity caused by climate change, with the support of the Canadian government and in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in the Republic of Iraq (FAO).
In his speech at the project launch ceremony, which was attended by the Canadian ambassador, the director of the FAO office in Baghdad, the technical Undersecretary of the Ministry, Jassim Al-Falahi, and representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Planning and Water Resources, Minister of Environment Nizar Amidi confirmed: The aim of this project, which keeps pace with Iraqi national trends, is to strengthen procedures adapting to the negative effects of climate change.
He announced: The launch of the rural families adaptation project in southern Iraq comes within the national directions in strengthening adaptation measures with the support of the Canadian government and in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)./ End
