Ministry of Municipality Hosts Workshop on Circular Economy and Waste Management

Doha: The Ministry of Municipality, in collaboration with the Embassy of the French Republic to the State of Qatar, organized a workshop on circular economy and solid waste management. The event aimed at enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise to achieve sustainable development goals.

According to Qatar News Agency, the workshop was attended by Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani, alongside several officials in the fields of waste management and circular economy. HE Ambassador of the French Republic to the State of Qatar Jean-Baptiste Faivre and a group of French experts and specialists participated via videoconferencing.

Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani highlighted the significance of the event, coinciding with Qatar’s Environment Day under the slogan ‘Our Environment… Sustainable Giving’. He reiterated the commitment to environmental protection and finding sustainable solutions, considering the workshop a vital platform for knowledge exchange between Qatar and France.

In his opening remarks, Al Karani emphasized the global focus on environmental issues and waste management, especially in the Middle East, which is facing impacts from climate change. He stressed the need for innovative solutions to reduce pollution and preserve resources.

He further noted that Qatar is at the forefront of adopting the circular economy concept through initiatives like the Mesaieed waste-to-energy center, showcasing the nation’s capability to transform environmental challenges into sustainable opportunities.

HE Ambassador Jean-Baptiste Faivre expressed optimism that the workshop would facilitate the sharing of experiences between Qatari and French institutions and companies in the field. He advocated for the coordination of efforts across government, private, and community sectors in waste management.

The workshop featured a presentation on Qatar’s solid waste management strategy, discussing topics such as the implementation of the circular economy and technological innovations for waste-to-energy conversion.
