MOCI Organizes Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights

Doha: In cooperation with Qatar Development Bank (QDB), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) organized a workshop entitled "intellectual property rights between law and application," in the presence of Assistant Undersecretary for Commerce Affairs Ayed Al Qahtani and a number of entrepreneurs and owners of small and medium enterprises. The workshop aimed to educate entrepreneurs and owners of small and medium enterprises about intellectual property rights and raise awareness of their importance. It also came within the MOCI's efforts to enhance the protection of intellectual property and disseminate it widely to ensure the achievement of the desired benefits. The workshop covered several topics, mainly the definition of intellectual property rights, a review of the national and international legislation regulating them, and the general concepts of trademarks and their registration procedures. The Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department at the MOCI was also introduced, as well as its role and mechanism of work in registering trademarks, in addition to the benefits of intellectual property for companies and the foundations of the regulatory framework for industrial property. The workshop also included means of raising awareness among small and medium-sized enterprises about intellectual and industrial property rights, in addition to highlighting the role of international organizations specialized in this field, such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
