The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the sixth race meeting in the 2022-23 season at the Uqda Racecourse sand track on Saturday, 31 December. The feature event of the seven-race card day was the End Of Year Cup and it saw the Injaaz Stud-owned Mubadir (Majd Al Arab x Al Mubdiaa) get back quickly to winning ways. The Jihad El Ahmad-trained 6YO won the 1300m Graduation for 3YO+ Local Purebred Arabians in nice style as he came clear under Eduardo Pedroza by a length and a quarter. The Abdulaziz Saleh Al Jaber-owned and Hadi Al Ramzani-trained Habes (QA) (Harran ASF) finished second under jockey Soufiane Saadi. The Al Jeryan Stud-owned and M.H.K Al Attiyah-trained AJS Al Mared (QA) (AF AlBahar) was a further length behind in third under jockey Szczepan Mazur.
Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners after the final race of the day.
Madarek
Earlier on the day, the meeting began with the Handicap (0-65) for 3YO+ Local Thoroughbreds and it was the Mansoor Khalil Al Mansoori-owned and trained Madarek (QA) (Mandour x Al Basmah) who proved the best in the field with an impressive four-length victory under jockey Marco Casamento.
Mared Al Uraiq
In the second race, the 1300m Maiden for 3YO+ Local Purebred Arabians, Sheikh Faisal Bin Hamad Bin Jassim Al Thani’s homebred Mared Al Uraiq (QA) (Mared Al Sahra x Sahaba Al Uraiq), on fourth career-start, scored by three quarters of a length under Alberto Sanna for trainer Mohamed Khaled Elahmed.
Sakher
The H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani-owned Sakher (FR) (Amer x Margouia), having finished second in his last two outings, went one better in the third race in the card, winning the 2000m Maiden for 4-6YO Purebred Arabians as he stretched clear by two and a half lengths under jockey Lukas Delozier for trainer Rudy Nerbonne.
New Star
The Mohammed Abdulhadi Al Hajri-owned New Star (IRE) (New Bay x Dashing Approach) was two lengths ahead of anything else at the end of the fourth race, the 2000m Novice for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds, getting trainer Hamad Al Jehani and jockey Arnaud De Lepine on the board for the day.
Sayaad
Jockey Lukas Delozier was back in the Winner’s Enclosure after the fifth race as he partnered the Al Ghazali Stud-owned Sayaad (FR) (Dahess x Al Shahania Aseala) to win the 2000m Handicap (0-85) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians by a length and three quarters for trainer Gassim Ghazali.
Red Power
In the 1300m Handicap (55-75) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds, Red Power (IRE) (Acclamation x Duchess Power) produced a find performance to score by three quarters of a length in the penultimate race in the card, giving a double on the day for the owner Mohammed Abdulhadi Al Hajri, trainer Hamad Al Jehani and jockey Arnaud De Lepine.
