Doha: Egyptian world No. 1, Nour El Sherbini, claimed the title of the Qatar QTerminals Classic Squash 2024 in the women's category today, defeating fellow Egyptian Nouran Gohar in a thrilling five-game final. El Sherbini, a seven-time world champion, came back from two games down to win 3-2, with scores of 10-12, 5-11, 11-6, 11-9, and 11-6. The marathon match lasted 96 minutes and took place on the main glass court at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. HE President of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation Nasser bin Ghanim Al Khelaifi along with Secretary General Tareq Zainal and CEO of Professional Squash Association (PSA) Alex Gough, presented the championship trophy to El Sherbini and the runner-up trophy to Gohar. This is El Sherbini's first title in Qatar after two previous finals in Doha, in 2015, when she lost to Englands Laura Massaro, and in 2023, when she was defeated by fellow Egyptian Hania El Hammamy. In a statement to Qatar News Agency, El Sherbini expressed he r joy at winning her first title in Qatar, saying that she was extremely proud to achieve this victory after her third final on the Khalifa International Complex court.
