The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) today condemned strongly burning a copy of the holy book, the Quran, outside the grand mosque in Stockholm after Eid Al-Adha prayers.
“Such a hateful act perpetrated by an extremist foments hatred, exclusion, racism, undermines mutual respect and co-existence among peoples. It also contravenes international efforts for dissemination of the values of tolerance, moderation and renunciation of extremism”, it said in a statement.
The organization urged governments concerned with the incident to take effective measures to prevent recurrence of such an act.
It renewed the commitment to adhere to the UN charter, encouraging respect for human rights and basic rights for all at the global level without any discrimination.
Freedom of expression must be observed with a sense of responsibility, according to the laws and human rights rules, said the statement
