Palestine Permanent Observer to UN: Atrocities Committed by Israel in Gaza Insult to Humanity

New York, Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour emphasised that the atrocities and terrorism committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip constitute an insult to humanity and cannot be justified under any pretext.

This came in Mansour's letters sent to the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council for the current month (China), and the President of the UN General Assembly, on the Israeli entity's continued fierce war against the Palestinian people living under occupation, and its disregard for global calls for ceasefire and the appeals of the General Assembly and Security Council for a humanitarian truce.

He pointed out that estimates indicate the martyrdom of 12,200 Palestinians, including 3,250 women and 5,000 children, with 29,000 injured. Additionally, about 4,000 people remain under the rubble. The disruption of communications in Gaza makes it difficult to obtain accurate casualty numbers, he added.

He also underlined that over 200 Palestinians were martyred and around 3,000 were injured in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in recent Israeli attacks on refugee camps in Jenin, Balata, and Dheisheh.

He referred to the Israeli entity's direct targeting of three UNRWA-affiliated schools that shelter thousands of displaced Palestinian families, resulting in dozens of martyrdoms and injuries. Since the beginning of this war, 17 UNRWA facilities have been directly attacked, and 67 facilities have been affected by Israeli airstrikes and shelling across Gaza, from north to south, leading to the martyrdom of 176 Palestinian refugees and injuring over 800, Mansour said, wondering how it is possible to attack United Nations facilities and shelters protected by the United Nations flag repeatedly, without any consequences? Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations reiterated the call for an immediate ceasefire, the protection of Palestinian civilians, and the widespread provision of humanitarian aid without obstacles, stressing the need for the Security Council and the General Assembly to take tangible measures to stop the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Israeli entity against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the rest of the occupied Palestine, and that resolutions alone cannot address the serious crisis in Palestine and the risks threatening the region.
