Palestinian Foreign Ministry Calls for Binding International Measures to Implement ICJs Advisory Opinion

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates called on the international community and the United Nations (UN) and its specialized institutions to assume their responsibilities and stop the genocide and crimes of the occupation and its colonists and provide international protection for the Palestinian people.

The ministry underlined in a statement issued Wednesday the importance of taking the necessary binding measures in accordance with international law to implement the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the legal consequences arising from the prolonged Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories since 1967.

The statement also underlined that signed agreements and all understandings that were achieved under international auspices continue to be undermined. The occupation persists in dismembering the Palestinian homeland, striking its demographic and geographical unity and turning it into isolated “cantons” with the aim to continue its ethnic cleansi
ng and the declared and undeclared creeping annexation of the West Bank including Jerusalem, which leads to undermining the embodiment of the geographically contiguous Palestinian state.

The ministry stressed that it views with great concern the escalation of the bloody incursions by the occupation forces into Palestinian towns, villages, camps and cities, which have led to a significant increase in the number of martyrs and wounded, as well as the occupation’s attempt to worsen the situation in the West Bank through the ongoing raids and the systematic sabotage of the infrastructure and the foundations of the Palestinian existence.
