Dubbed 'Pink WhatsApp', a new mobile application has been making the rounds.
The fraudulent application is not related to WhatsApp, the social media platform in any way, but is in fact a new way to scam phone users.
Once installed, this application gains access to all data that is stored on the phone. It can access bank details, photographs, passwords among others.
Certain countries have asked users to beware of such links and have even issued alerts after people have reported getting duped.
To protect against such applications, it is advised not to download any applications or updates on Android devices except from the official Google Play Store.
Meta Platforms, Inc., the owner of WhatsApp has always stressed the need to refrain from using unofficial WhatsApp applications, widespread among Android users, and described them as fake applications for WhatsApp developed by third parties
